The project is exempt from income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. Inerest and penalties related to tax reporting are recognized when incurred and are included as administrative expenses in the statements of activities. There were no interest or penalties incurred related to tax reporting for the years ended september 30, 2018 and 2017. The project's tax returns are subject to audit by various taxing authorities. The open audit periods for the project are the fiscal years ending in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. The project follows the topic of income taxes from the financial accounting standards board, accounting standards codification, (fasb asc) with regard to the accounting and recognition of income tax positons taken or expected to be taken in the project's tax return.
