Mission and Program Overview

Mission

To provide african american students access to college preparatory education at participating independent schools in the greater pittsburgh area through the provision of need based financial assistance. F.a.m.e. Also provides support to scholars and alumni throughout their academic careers. Ultimately, through this work, f.a.m.e.'s intention is to increase the number of african american leaders in the greater pittsburgh region.

To educate, empower and embolden african american youth to become student ambassadors of today, leaders of tomorrow and stewards of their communities by providing access to college preparatory education at participating independent schools in the greater pittsburgh area through the provision of need based financial assistance.

During the year ended june 30, 2021, $92,501 was recorded as gain on forgiveness of payroll protection program loan on the statement of revenue. The gain on the forgiveness is included in governmental contributions; therefore, the contribution is being reported on schedule b.

The endowment funds are used as designated for the purpose of scholarships for fame scholars in grade 3-12.

PART X, LINE 2:

Financial accounting standards board accounting standards codification ("fasb asc") on income taxes clarifies recognition, measurement, presentation and disclosure relating to uncertain tax positions. Management is not aware of matters that present uncertainty to fame relative to income taxes; however, were such matters to arise, they would be evaluated in accordance with existing accounting principles and accruals and disclosures would be made as required. Fame's federal tax returns for tax years 2018 and beyond remain subject to examination by the internal revenue service.

THE FAME ACADEMY HELPS STUDENTS TO EXCEL WITHIN THEIR PUBLIC SCHOOL COMMUNITY AND EXPOSES THEM TO COLLEGES AND A VARIETY OF CAREER CHOICES. WITHIN THE FAME ACADEMY, STUDENTS ALSO TRAVEL 3 TIMES A YEAR, TWICE TO CITIES OUTSIDE OF PITTSBURGH AND ONCE TO A PARTNER BOARDING SCHOOL FOR AN OVERNIGHT, ONE-WEEK STAY. THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO ASSURE FAME SCHOLARS SEE ALL THAT THE PITTSBURGH WORKFORCE HAS TO OFFER. ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS ALLOW SCHOLARS TO ENHANCE THEIR EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES BEYOND THE CLASSROOM. IT IS FAME'S GOAL TO ENSURE THAT EACH SCHOLAR IS ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN SOME FORM OF SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM EACH YEAR TO KEEP THEIR MINDS STIMULATED. THIS PAST SUMMER, SEVERAL OF OUR SCHOLARS WERE ENROLLED IN SUMMER SCHOOL CLASSES, PARTICIPATED IN LOCAL SUMMER CAMPS OR HAD A SUMMER INTERNSHIP. IN ADDITION TO SUMMER PROGRAMS, FAME PROVIDES SEVERAL OTHER FORMS OF ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. SUCH PROGRAMS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, A SAT PREP COURSE WITH THE PRINCETON REVIEW, A SATURDAY TUTORIAL PROGRAM, A STUDY SKILLS WORKSHOP, AND MATH/WRITING ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS. THESE ACTIVITIES ARE DESIGNED FOR FAME SCHOLARS TO RECEIVE ACADEMIC SUPPORT AND SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION THAT WILL FURTHER THEIR ACADEMIC SUCCESS. SUCH PROGRAMS ARE NOT ONLY OPEN TO FAME SCHOLARS, BUT TO AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS ATTENDING PARTNER INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS. THREE LEADERSHIP SYMPOSIUMS ARE HELD EACH YEAR TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND BROADEN THEIR CAREER AND PERSONAL AWARENESS. IN ADDITION, BIANNUALLY, FAME TAKES HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARS ON A LEADERSHIFT TOUR. THE TRIP ALTERNATES YEARLY WITH THE FAME COLLEGE TOUR, FOCUSED ON VISITING COLLEGES (IVY LEAGUE, HBCU, SMALL LIBERAL ARTS COLLEGES, AND LARGE STATE SCHOOLS) DURING SPRING BREAK.
