Mission

Our purpose is to provide support for the economic, emotional and spiritual needs of those needing a helping hand to build self-sufficiency. Our services are committed to strengthening families, building community and reducing poverty among people of all races, faiths, ages, and backgrounds. Our activities include a thrift store, soup kitchen, emergency assistance, food program, temporary housing for single parents with children, and training programs in health, family and financial managment, and computer basics.

Prince of peace is a non-profit agency that provides services to low income and needy individuals of the shenango valley; our purpose is to fulfill the basic needs for food, clothing and shelter through housing and counseling assistance, emergency shelter, soup kitchen, food distribution and the thrift store. Through these services, efforts are made to increase clients self-reliance, foster communications, provide resources and make referrals.

The audit, development, finance/executive, nominating, and strategic planning committees hold regularly scheduled meetings during the year. The other committees address issues during board meetings, and make formal reports to the full board for their approval. Formal meetings and minutes exist for the audit and finance/executive committees.

The finance/executive committee is sent copies of the 990 for review, comment, and approval for submission. The finance/executive committee first approves the 990. The whole board approves the 990 at its next scheduled board meeting.

The executive director has conflict of interest forms signed by the board of directors each year at the first board meeting. Staff sign the forms at the first staff meeting during the year. Board member forms are filed by the executive director, and staff member forms are filed in their personnel files.

The executive director presents compensation and benefits packages for management employees to the board of directors. The board of directors assumes authority for the executive director's compensation package. They compare salaries to those in similar positions, and make decisions based on those findings. As a charitable non-profit organization dependent on donations and grants for income, it is understood that salaries provided to management are not comparable to salaries in the public and business sectors, remaining under those paid in those sectors.

WHILE THE MAJORITY OF ENROLLEES ARE ABLE TO COME TO THE CENTER ON FOOD DAY, THE CENTER UTILIZES TWO PART-TIME STAFF MEMBERS AND A BOX TRUCK FOR MAKING DELIVERIES TO THE ELDERLY AND DISABLED, AS WELL AS A FULL TIME PERSON FOR HANDLING AND ACCOUNTING FOR FOOD BROUGHT FROM THE COMMUNITY FOOD WAREHOUSE BY OUR TRUCK FOR DISTRIBUTIONS. SALARIES, VEHICLE EXPENSE, AND ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS MAKE UP THE MAJORITY OF COSTS TO OPERATE THE PROGRAM.
