“Crisis center north (ccn) is a non-profit counseling, referral, and educational resource center serving victims of domestic violence (dv), their children, and teens involved in violent dating relationships in the northern and western communities of allegheny county. Services extend throughout 23 primary zip codes in allegheny county (403,000 residents) to any individuals who are experiencing domestic violence. Our services include: a 24-hour hotline; individual and group counseling for adults and children; case-management services; community education programs (to employers, churches, and community groups); primary prevention programs (to local schools, hospitals, and law enforcement agencies); legal advocacy (providing victim assistance in the judicial system); medical advocacy (providing hospital accompaniment and access to video conferencing services); and micro loan programming (the first program for domestic violence victims in pa) to help victims establish economic independence and within the field of domestic violence, the first victim assistance canine program (inclusive of animal assisted therapy services and canine court program services) in pennsylvania. Ccn's canine program was recognized as one of the four most innovative practices in pennsylvania in 2013. Ccn has continuously provided free services to the northern and western areas of allegheny county for over 38 years, resulting in a program that is deeply rooted within the community. Last year, ccn's community based reached approximately 1,348 community members. Our school-based prevention programming reached 13,106 students, which represents 24% of the 55,000 youths enrolled at schools within ccn's catchment area. The organization's prevention efforts are no small feat for a prevention team consisting of 1.5 fte's. Ccn's 24-hour hotline, staffed by volunteers, provides round-the-clock access to crisis counseling and a direct connection to 24-hour on-call advocacy services provided by ccn's advocacy team. Ccn provides all services free of charge to our clients, reaching approximately 2,000 clients per year. Additionally, the organization partners with a number of local social service agencies to ensure that all client needs are met beyond those provided by our agency, thus avoiding unnecessary duplication of services in a challenging economic environment. Ccn has been a member program of the pennsylvania coalition against domestic violence (pcadv), since its incorporation. The coalition is a statewide organization of 60 domestic violence programs that ensure member organizations maintain the highest standards, while providing quality services to victims of domestic violence across the commonwealth of pennsylvania.”
