| Energy Education ProjectAs part of its mission to promote the increased use of renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies, Citizen Power offers free training on these technologies to middle and secondary school teachers in western Pennsylvania. The goal is to help teachers understand how these technologies work; their practical applications; and to provide resources, including tools and curricula, to aid in teaching about them to students. Participants learn how to conduct simple energy audits of their schools, and build and experiment with solar panels and wind turbines. | $264,059 | - |
| The Green Energy Collaborative ProgramThe Green Energy Collaborative Program (GEC) is a new program administered by Citizen Power, Inc. (CP) aimed at promoting renewable energy resource development by encouraging individuals in western Pennsylvania to purchase competitively priced wind-generated electricity. CP made the program available to residential consumers in the Duquesne Light service territory starting in July 2011. More than 500 consumers had taken advantage of this program by the end of 2011. | - | - |
| Health Care Regulation Reform ProjectThe first phase of the project is a comprehensive study of how the Pennsylvania Insurance Department (PID) works, including a much needed consolidation of its authorizing statutes. Phase two of the project involves advocating for the recommendations that will result from the study. Specifically, we hope to provide the PID with the oversight tools necessary to rein in health care costs and make it easier for consumers to participate in the rate-making process by making that process more transparent and user friendly. | - | - |
| Electric Utility Legal Advocacy ProjectCitizen Power has been working for over a decade with governmental agencies, other non-profits, and utilities in order to promote the use of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency while keeping electricity prices as low as possible and providing rate protections for the low-income population. As part of this effort, Citizen Power has worked as an advocate in legal proceedings before the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, the Public Utility Commission of Ohio, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and other agencies in order to promote the cleaner generation of energy, the smarter use of electricity, fair pricing of electricity, and the recognition that access to electricity is a necessity. Currently, we are working on forcing utilities to refund excessive payments made to utility companies that were supposed to cover the stranded costs of the utilities stemming from deregulation. | - | - |
