“Form 990 is provided to the Board and reviewed prior to filing. In the case where the Board cannot review the return prior to filing, it is reviewed at the next Board Meeting and any questions or comments are reviewed. Should something on the return be reported in error, the Board would direct the tax return to be amended to correct the information reported.”

“MYS has a formal conflict of interest policy for executive staff. In addition, MYS's by-laws include provisions regarding transactions between MYS and Board members that could give rise to a Conflict of Interest, including a formal process for reviewing and approving transactions for which a conflict may exist. During Fiscal Year 2024 the MYS Board began drafting an even more comprehensive COI policy for Board members, slated for implementation during 2025.MYS's executive director regularly and consistently reviews activities and transactions staff enter into to ensure compliance with the staff COI policy, and the Governance Committee of MYS's Board regularly and consistently reviews transactions to ensure compliance with the organization's by-laws.”

“Annual compensation for MYS's two most senior executives -- its Executive Director and its Music Director -- is determined through a Board process that includes a review of executive performance and an assessment of competitive benchmarks. The process is overseen by the Board President, who solicits feedback from and discusses recommendations with the Board's Officers and selected other Board members. Final compensation proposals are documented in writing prior to presentation to executive team members. The outcome of this process is reflected in the organization's annual budget, which is approved by the full Board.”
