“Form 990 is prepared by an independent certified public accountant and then reviewed by the executive director. Prior to filing it is also reviewed by the board of directors finance committee.”
“A conflict of interest policy is reviewed and approved by the board of directors annually, and in the event of any potential confilcts, such conflicts are documented by the executive director and presented to the independent members of the board of directors for their review and consideration.”
“The process for determining compensation for the executive director and key employees includes a review, discussion and approval by the board of directors who do not have a conflict of interest with respect to the compensation agreement, and independent of the person being compensated. The board of directors makes compensation decisions by looking at comparability data, the skills and expertise of the executive and the performance in meeting organization goals and expectations.”
“The organization makes its governing documents, confilct of interest policy, and financial statements available upon request.”

“The second program service accomplishment is the new voices & college screenwriting awards. The organization also operates two programs for emerging writers. The new voices fellowship is a mentorship program, running for approximately six-months, that pairs five emerging writers each year with a professional writer who acts as their mentor, and further supports them with access to networking opportunities, interactive workshops, and a suite of other benefits. The college screenwriting awards, meanwhile, recognize screenwriters whose work advances the humanitas mission and who are currently enrolled in a college or university program. Humanitas annually awards two prizes which recognize excellent student screen and television writing: the david and lynn angell college comedy award and the carol mendelsohn college drama award. The awardees receive a cash prize, a professional notes session, and a suite of other benefits.”
