“Sojourners engages a certified public accountant to prepare the federal form 990. The federal form 990 is reviewed and approved by the Chief Financial Officer and the return is signed, after review, by another officer of the corporation. Prior to filing the form 990, a PDF version of the return is sent to all board members.”

“Key employees, officers, and members of the Board of Directors are required to review the Conflict of Interest policy and acknowledge that they have done so in writing to the organization. Annually, each of the above individuals must complete a disclosure form identifying any potential relationships, positions, or circumstances in which the individual, member of their family, or an organization in which the individual serves as an owner, officer, or director is involved that he or she believes could contribute to a conflict of interest.”

“The salary and benefits of the President are reviewed annually by an independent committee of the Board of Directors based on market data for similar positions in the Washington DC area. The committee meets in executive session and therefore no minutes are maintained for these meetings. However, the decisions reached by the compensation committee are memorialized in a compensation agreement between the organization and the President which details all compensation and fringe benefits to be received in the upcoming year. Key employees and compensated officers of the corporation are subject to the salary administration system of the organization as are all other employees. The salary ranges for each position were determined through market based salary surveys for nonprofits of similar size and scope. Employees' pay is maintained within these market based ranges and subject to annual review and with a possibility of merit increase. Salary administration is managed by the Chief Executive Officer and the Vice President for Human Resources. All salary decisions are documented in the employees personnel file.
