The Form 990 is prepared by the certified public accountant, reviewed by the Executive Director and Finance Committee, and finally distributed to the entire board. The board responds with any comments or questions. Once all comments have been addressed, the return is filed with the IRS.

The Association monitors and enforces compliance with the conflict of interest policy by annually requiring board members to complete and sign a disclosure statement.

The Executive Director is paid the remainder of his monthly honorarium, which was set well below market rates. The honorarium amount was approved by the board during the annual budgeting process. The process is documented in the board minutes. There are no other compensated officers or key employees.

Financial Statement Notes

Part III, Line 4:

The Trent House Association's collection consists of antique and reproduction furnishings (such as beds, chairs, tables, mirrors, chests, etc.) that are similar to and from the same period as items listed on the inventory of William Trent's possessions associated with the estate, conducted after his death. These furnishings are placed in the House as they would have been at the time of Trent's tenure there and used to illustrate and interpret life in the households of wealthy families of that period (early 1700s).

Part X, Line 2:

Trent House Association, Inc. is exempt from income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and applicable state law. Accordingly, no provision for income taxes has been made in the financial statements. Income generated by activities considered unrelated to the Organization's mission would be subject to tax, which if incurred, would be recognized as a current expense. No such tax has been recognized for the year ended December 31, 2024. The Organization's federal exempt returns are subject to examination by the IRS, generally for three years after they were filed. The Organization's state informational returns are subject to examination up to four years after they were filed. The statute of limitations does not apply to unfiled returns. The Organization believes that all required returns have been filed. The Organization has determined that there are no material uncertain tax positions that require disclosure in the financial statements.

These furnishings are placed in the House as they would have been at the time of Trent's tenure there and used to illustrate and interpret life in the households of wealthy families of that period (early 1700s).

Accordingly, no provision for income taxes has been made in the financial statements. Income generated by activities considered unrelated to the Organization's mission would be subject to tax, which if incurred, would be recognized as a current expense. No such tax has been recognized for the year ended December 31, 2024. The Organization's federal exempt returns are subject to examination by the IRS, generally for three years after they were filed. The Organization's state informational returns are subject to examination up to four years after they were filed. The statute of limitations does not apply to unfiled returns. The Organization believes that all required returns have been filed. The Organization has determined that there are no material uncertain tax positions that require disclosure in the financial statements.
