Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Argus community's mission is to provide innovative programs which help severely disadvantaged teens and adults to free themselves from poverty and drug abuse and build new lives based on responsibility, work, and hope. Argus provides a drug-free, safe, and nurturing environment in which persons living on the fringes of society can acquire education and skills and transform maladaptive attitudes and behaviors. We emphasize self-help, personal responsibility, and mutual support.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Harbor house i & ii - harbor house pioneered the treatment of homeless dually diagnosed persons within a modified therapeutic community. An integrated team of mental health and substance abuse professionals provide psychiatric assessment, medication therapy, life skills, family counseling, education, vocational training, work experience, hiv/aids prevention and support, and aftercare. Harbor house i serves 59 men and women; harbor house ii serves 50 men. Individualized treatment tailored to different diagnoses and varying levels of functioning is offered, with the goal of enhancing quality of life. Many harbor house residents have been discharged back into the community self-sufficient and functioning.
Activity 3
Elizabeth l. Sturz (els) & adult resocializtion unit (aru) outpatient centers: els and aru are medically supervised intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment programs. We help people to address and overcome their substance abuse while living at home and remaining active in their community and workplace. Each patient receives a comprehensive evaluation, a patient-centered individualized treatment plan, and a program of therapies unique to their treatment needs. The els program serves adults and adolescents 6 days per week; aru serves adults age 18 and older 5 days per week.
