Profile
Global arts corps (gac) is a consortium of theater artists with a mandate to bring together performers from opposite sides of political, religious, ethnic, and racial divides in order to experience each other's stories and conflicts in new ways. Our mission is to examine world conflict by disarming people in conflict with the experience of their innate ability for perceptual change. Working now with children in an ongoing, multi-year radio exchange project, we work in three main ways: (1) use theater and storytelling as a process to develop group trust and belonging (2) support kids to create their own productions and (3) connect kids across political, religious, ethnic, and racial divides using their stories as a new starting point for communication. Work on this project was conducted in kosovo and wyoming, usa this past year.

We are an international community of professional artists who use theatre as a catalyst for dialogue, as a way to shift perspectives, and as a means through which to bring about understanding, tolerance and empathy. Our goal is to become a multi-lingual, multi-cultural resource for conflict resolution and reconciliation in conflict zones across the globe.

“Global arts corps (gac) uses theater and storytelling as a process to develop group trust and belonging, and now with a focus on children, to support them creating their own productions and connect them across political, religious, ethnic, and racial divides using their stories as a new starting point for communication. In 2024, this project continued, in isniq, kosovo as well as wind river reservation in wyoming usa. Working with kids in the early stages of developing radio stories as ensembles. Over three phases of several weeks each, more than 70 kids have been coming together as a whole and in smaller groups to begin the messy process of collective story creation. Experimenting in sound effects, music, juggling, and more, these kids have begun to structure stories that are both seeped in their history and also informed and held in the present moment of their reality. At the same time, we have begun a parallel process at the wind river indian reservation in wyoming and have begun to facilitate exchanges between the two disparate communities of kids.”
“Our award-winning productions have spanned more than 47 cities and 12 countries on four continents, reaching over 100,000 audience members, and facilitating reconciliation workshops for more than 15,000 participants. Most recently, we supported a group of 19 young cambodian circus performers to create a stage production, see you yesterday, as a way to move backwards in time across generations separated by genocide. Using their production as an inquiry into the past, they uncovered dimensions of themselves in relation to the trauma of their elders and ancestors. They then took their learnings on the road, performing across cambodia, the us, and then in africa, including a groundbreaking performance to 18,000 people in a congolese refugee camp in rwanda. The process of creating and touring this production was documented in a feature length film the journey back to now. Since then, global arts corps has been focused on its children's radio exchange, a multiyear initiative aimed at supporting kids around the world to collectively craft their own stories without adult intervention. Together with partners, we are working closely with groups of kids, mostly in the pre-teen age range but not exclusively, providing exercises to facilitate storytelling processes. Working across geographies, we are developing radio productions between diverse cultural communities.”

| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 0 | GLOBAL ARTS CORPS (GAC) USES THEATER AND STORYTELLING AS A PROCESS TO DEVELOP GROUP TRUST AND BELONGING, AND NOW WITH A FOCUS ON CHILDREN, TO SUPPORT THEM CREATING THEIR OWN PRODUCTIONS AND CONNECT THEM ACROSS POLITICAL, RELIGIOUS, ETHNIC, AND RACIAL DIVIDES USING THEIR STORIES AS A NEW STARTING POINT FOR COMMUNICATION. AT THE SAME TIME, WE HAVE BEGUN A PARALLEL PROCESS AT THE WIND RIVER INDIAN RESERVATION IN WYOMING AND HAVE BEGUN TO FACILITATE EXCHANGES BETWEEN THE TWO DISPARATE COMMUNITIES OF KIDS. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 1 | OUR AWARD-WINNING PRODUCTIONS HAVE SPANNED MORE THAN 47 CITIES AND 12 COUNTRIES ON FOUR CONTINENTS, REACHING OVER 100,000 AUDIENCE MEMBERS, AND FACILITATING RECONCILIATION WORKSHOPS FOR MORE THAN 15,000 PARTICIPANTS. WORKING ACROSS GEOGRAPHIES, WE ARE DEVELOPING RADIO PRODUCTIONS BETWEEN DIVERSE CULTURAL COMMUNITIES. |
