“The organization's endowment funds are divided among field of interest categories. Organizational/agency endowment are generally for the benefit of specific programs or other nonprofit organizations as specified in the underlying endowment fund agreement. Scholarship endowments are established for perpetual scholarship programs as specified in the underlying endowment agreement. Education endowment funds are more broad- based endowments to support local education inititiatives in the 17 county area served by the organization. Field of interest endowment funds are set aside to provide perpetual funding for specific fields of interest of the applicable donor consistent with the underlying endowment agreement. Community endowment funds are established to support program inititiatives and grant awards in each of the communities that have established such an endowment in the organization's 17 county region. Designated endowment funds are generally designated by the donor in support of a specific designee. Endowment fund net assets are generally categorized as permanently restricted even though the investment committee of the board of directors establishes a spending policy with respect to endowment fund assets. The spending policy can result in the expenditure of endowment principal should investment earnings be insufficient in any particular year.”
