Financial Statement Notes

PART II, LINE 5:

As part of our overall land preservation policy, we have sections that discuss the enforcement of conservation easements through rigorous monitoring and procedures in case of violations. It states in part, "when it accepts a conservation easement, the conservation foundation assumes the legal responsibility to uphold the terms of the easement--- in perpetuity. To care properly for an easement, it is necessary to monitor the easement and to be prepared to enforce its terms. At the least, this will require a limited amount of staff time. In the worst case, it may be necessary to defend the terms of an easement through legal action."

PART II, LINE 9:

The foundation has 45 easements consisting of 1635 acres as of june 30, 2021. No value has been assigned to these easements in the financial statements because the foundation does not have ownership rights to the underlying property.

PART IV, LINE 2B:

The foundation holds and administers funds for mitigation purposes on behalf of the u.s. Army corps of engineers (acoe). Such funds are required to be utilized only for specific purposes as directed by the acoe. Funds held on behalf of others is for property that are in subdivision that the association pays tcf to help maintain land preservation property in their community.

PART V, LINE 4:

For preservation of the dupage river.

PART X, LINE 2:

The foundation files income tax returns in the u.s. Federal jurisdiction and illinois. With few exceptions, the foundation is no longer subject to u.s. Federal, state, and local, or non-u.s. Income tax examinations by tax authorities for fiscal years before 2018. The foundation does not expect a material net change in unrecognized tax benefits in the next twelve months.
