“The President and Treasurer are married.”

“Supporters who either volunteer at least 20 hours per year or donate at least $12 are considered members. Members may receive a small discount on purchases of 10% and a subscription to our newsletter. Members support our mission of alleviating poverty and are not offered any tangible benefits. Members may choose to serve on committees as well as may seek election as board members. All Board members serve without pay or substantial benefits. No person receives a commission or percentage of income. Any member receiving pay for services works for less than market value and keeps records for public inspection.”

“Members of a committee may choose one person to participate as a members of the corporation board.”

“Officers with financial responsibility are supervised by the board. Each affiliate/program committee reports to the corporation board. The board must approve an y legislative support or any long-term financial obligations. The Board also approved salary and staff guidelines which includes a nondiscrimination and grievance process, a Whistleblower policy, and review the work of committees, director and board operations regularly.”

“Board members receive copies and can question/suggest corrections Board members also review financial reports at each meeting and annually review board and staff performance.”

“Board members are required to disclose any personal or business dealings that may benefit him/her from the organization. A board member may be asked to refrain from voting or participation in certain areas that may benefit that individual personally. The as a group is responsible for making decision that align with the stated mission of Friends of the Third World.”

“The board as part of the budget process will set wage ranges. The board will approve specific salaries and changes for two officers - President and Treasurer - as those who manage day to day financial matters. During this fiscal year the two officials - President and Treasurer - voluntarily accept only room and board worth $300 per month by their own request. In general since our organization's mission is to promote the self-reliance of the poor, our organization seeks to work within our earned income and therefore usually pays wages that are less than the market rate. We operate with the support of a large number of volunteers who donate their labor totaling about $118,000 for the current fiscal year.”

“This report includes programs named Third World Handarts in Arizona and Global Village in Peoria Illinois as well as Third World Shoppe and Three Rivers Arts Center for Kids (as well as programs titled Friends of the Poor Fort Wayne, Whole World Books, Cooperative Trading, Delta Communications & Hattersley House Recycling Center - all based in Indiana. Friends began in 1972 with the stated mission of alleviating poverty by addressing its root causes thru training, public education, voluntary action and partnerships with like-minded organizations. Our motto is "Live Simply that Others May Simply Live"l. Our activities all strive to assist low-income families to rise above poverty by working toward self-reliance. The chapter in Peoria closed as of December 2024.”

“Educational programs about poverty and related social concerns totaled 2500.00 in volunteer labor. This activity includes a book and resource library hosting world maps and 600 other related topics as well as fulfilling orders for several other educational programs. In addition $40,000 worth of volunteer labor was provided to fulfill administrative and management needs.”

“Many donors also purchased items in our volunteer-run gift shop. The value of purchases are not tax-deductible. All receipts for donations include a statement regarding tax-deductible limitations, as well as a reminder that the donor receives nothing of value for any actual donation.”
