| IRS990/Desc | 0 | HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICESMore than $3 million was raised in a single day for 437 local nonprofits during this second year of the Great Give Palm Beach and Martin Counties. The 24-hour online fundraising event held May 5-6 was hosted by the Community Foundation, United Way of Palm Beach County and United Way of Martin County. The final total raised in this event was over $3 million and included the money raised through online donations that day, as well as additional funds raised by the nonprofits through match challenges and checks that were not contributed via the website. It also included over $550,000 in bonus funds raised by the Community Foundation that was divided and awarded to every participating nonprofit based on the total they raised. Community foundations across the country participated in the giving event in partnership with Give Local America, and collectively raised $68 million in one day. The Community Foundation did its final year of grantmaking in a three year affordable housing program. Projects included three Habitat for Humanity organizations. Their combined focus was the veterans' community, targeted impoverished areas and bringing together communities to refurbish their neighborhoods. Other programming included services that support clients work toward and purchase their own homes. The focus was to move individuals and families from homelessness or temporary housing to the stability of their own for the future. The Community Foundation's grantmaking provided needed support services that other traditional funders will not cover. The Urban League of Palm Beach County was awarded $108,333 to provide services to help clients obtain or maintain homeownership through foreclosure intervention counseling, financial counseling, first time homebuyer workshops and housing counseling. Gulfstream Goodwill Industries will provide services to individuals in our community who find it hardest to move into an independent living situation - those with special needs. A grant of $146,443 will enable Goodwill to provide case management services to their clients that will move into an independent living opportunity in Lake Worth. |
