| ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt | 0 | DUE TO THE COVID-19, CORONA VIRUS PANDEMIC which has evidenced its effects on all businesses across the country but in particular small businesses. It is for those in the Arts, Entertainment and Cultural Education Industries especially devastating. That being stated as an additional reason for the delay in our filling but we were still challenged even before the Pandemic took hold so we have described our circumstances below. Attached is form 990 and schedules FY 2018 (our fiscal year 2019 - July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019) for our organization the Rod Rodger Dance Company, Inc. As stated in our past filed form 990's we are and have been very aware that late filing for this tax information is a very serious issue. Our organization has now almost caught up on past filings that were delinquent and we were advised to file to current year's first, which we have been doing. We have now finally completed our one outstanding as the filing for year FY 2005 amended from a 990EZ to 990 Long Form, accomplished by our volunteer accountant. Our organization is continues working extremely hard to keep our company and programs operating, the last several years have been a real challenge after finally coming back after 9/11, as we are located in lower Manhattan. Our organization was then hit even harder with the illness and passing of our founding director Mr. Rod Rodgers. He became ill in December 2001 and passed away in late March 2002. Mr. Rodgers ran this organization on a shoestring budget and he did the work of a dozen people. The fiscal records and bookkeeping were behind before Mr. Rodgers passed away and we have battled with coming current on all tax reporting since then. With the help of supporters of our organization and advise from IRS we were able to complete and file form 990EZ for IRS Years 2006, 2007, 2008 , 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and now 2018 (our fiscal years 2007, 08, 09, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 & 19 - 7/1 to 6/30). We did finally overcome most of the effects of weather and political changes like we did after Hurricane / Super storm Sandy on our organization. The impact is always challenging as we own our facility and it is a landmark NYC building built in 1889. Severe storms affect us and others in lower Manhattan. We have been extremely fortunate to receive assistance from friends of the company and foundations offering grants to small non-profit profits affected disasters big and small. We continue to meet the challenge of helping others who experienced total loss of their spaces partnering with other artists in need. Extreme winter weather which damaged areas throughout our building due to pipes bursting from the below freezing temperatures. Oil prices are up this year again for heating as our furnace is now 26 years old. The effects of the ongoing negative political climate in the country (particularly towards non-profits) which has resulted still in loss of earned and unearned revenue and ever increasing our operational costs. We reiterate our good fortunate to have been able to stay open and operational after all the past disasters that have come our way from 911, the passing of our founder, hurricanes and floods, explosions around the corner and the ongoing cuts in funding to Arts and Cultural groups and organizations around the country. We take great pride in helping other artists and organizations during these past and current challenging times for and non-profit especially arts programs. We have struggled to survive while trying to find increased income when all our funding both private and public has been reduced. As new cutbacks are looming upon us our company and many of the organizations that have produced our programs, will also struggle to survive and keep their program operating. Our organizations budget has been under $200,000 for several years and we continue to find alternatives replacing lost earned and unearned income. We own our building since 2006 through the E |
