OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Oil Spill Prevention Initiative EAC worked throughout 2015 to raise public awareness concerning the lack of public policy to provide up-to-date maritime emergency preparedness and response, require best available on-water recovery technology, and to discourage the use of chemical dispersants as the primary emergency response in marine protected areas and marine sanctuaries. EAC coordinated environmental groups in California to address this need.

MPA Watch is a citizen-science monitoring project training volunteers to observe and record human uses within the MPAs in Marin County. The goal is to better understand the type and frequency of uses within our MPAs and to educate public awareness about their importance. This program has continued into 2016.
