We strive for community improvement through strategic grantmaking in priority areas of diversity & inclusion, education, economic & community betterment, health & human services, arts & culture and the environment, without discrimination as to race, color or creed.

The grand haven area community foundation, governed by a volunteer board of trustees, is dedicated to improving and enhancing the quality of life in ottawa county and the western michigan area by serving as a leader, catalyst and resource for philanthropy; building and holding a permanent and growing endowment for the community's changing needs and opportunities without discrimination as to race, color, or creed; striving for community improvement through strategic grantmaking in such fields as the arts, education, health, the environment, youth, social services and other human needs; promoting partnerships around critical community issues and leveraging resources to meet community needs; providing a flexible and cost-effective way for donors to achieve their charitable goals and to improve their community now and in the future. Adopted by board of trustees july 27, 2005.
The foundation receives gifts, bequests, and donations to be held in trust and administered exclusively for charitable purposes, primarily in and for, but not limited to, the benefit of the people of ottawa county and the western michigan area.

The committee's charter identifies one of the audit committee's responsibilities as "review of irs 990 prior to filing." following review, the audit committee makes a formal recommendation, by resolution, to the board of trustees to approve the filing of the irs 990. The form 990 is then presented to the board of trustees at their next meeting for review and action on the audit committee's resolution.”

“Evaluation process for the president 1. The president completes the employee self evaluation form, based on the goals of the preceding year. 2. The president gives the completed self evaluation form, in addition to summary level data on inreases provided to the rest of the staff and benchmarking data, to the board chair by the friday before the may executive committee meeting. 3. The board chair then distributes copies of the president's self evaluation to the executive commitee and may seek further comment form the board of trustees at that time. 4. The executive committee meets in an executive session at the may executive committee meeting to consider the president's evaluation. At that meeting, the executive committee will also determine compensations, taking into account comparable salary data. This data will generally be obtained throughte council on foundation's annual salary survey and/or other benchmarking resources. 5. The v.p. Of finance & administration hosts a zoom call for the executive committe to report back to the board of trustees on the review process and to recommend compensation changes. The meeting is in executive session with only board members attending, allowing the trustees to discuss the executive committee's recommendation. The meeting will occur between the may executive committee meeting and the may board meeting. 6. The board chair and vice chair meet with the president no later than june to discuss the evaluation and corresponding compensation decision, which is further outlined in a signed, written statement. Any salary increase will be retroactive to the first pay period in april (to align with staff increases). 7. The compensation policy allows for performance specific spot bonuses throught the year. However, the december executive committee meeting will include an executive session to review staff bonus information and may consider a bonus for the president. Before the meeting the president will share all detail on bonuses provided to other staff during the calendar year. Form 990, part vi, section b, line 15b: evaluation process for officers and key employees is not applicable since other officers of the organization are not compensated and the organization has no key employees. The most recent year this process was undertaken was 2025.”
