DescriptionGrantsExpenses
The Stock Market Game is offered by NVCEE at all academic levels - elementary, middle school, and high school. Working closely with the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA), NVCEE made great strides in expanding the reach of the Stock Market Game in Nevada classrooms. To keep the momentum rolling, NVCEE has made the commitment to hire a Stock Market Game Coordinator. The coordinator will be responsible for communicating with principals, teachers, and superintendents, offering training for teachers using the game in their classes, answering portfolio questions, monitoring game operations, and planning and delivering an awards event. The Stock Market Game Program is an online education program used in thousands of classrooms nationwide to help teach core subjects such as math, social studies, technology, business, economics and language skills in a real-world application while emphasizing the importance of long-term saving and investing. The Stock Market Game has now reached more than 15 million students, making it the most widely used program of its kind. It is the only stock market simulation supported by the New York Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ Stock Market. Students work together in teams to manage and grow a virtual investment portfolio during various sessions throughout the school year. In building their portfolio, students research and evaluate stocks, bonds, and mutual funds and make decisions based upon their learning. Students who participate in The Stock Market Game program learn more than investing - they gain an education for life. Teachers can incorporate a variety of Stock Market Game lessons and activities to teach and reinforce essential skills and concepts in a fun and innovative way.$0$6,126
The Nevada Council on Economic Education (NVCEE) successfully advocated for the passage of a robust economic and financial literacy bill in Nevada. The Council worked with Senators and Assemblymen, Department of Education, School District officials, and Board of Trustees to help shape and advocate for passage of the bill. After the bill passed legislation, NVCEE worked with the Department of Education and other financial literacy stakeholders on creating standards for teacher to follow. The Council is currently working with other financial literacy stakeholders, including the Nevada Treasurer's Office and San Francisco Federal Reserve on communicating the message and providing resources to teachers, including putting together financial literacy summits. NVCEE's ongoing advocacy goal is to make sure teachers have the training and resources needed to effectively educate youth on economic and financial literacy issues.$0$0
Financial Fitness for Life (FFFL) A comprehensive curriculum designed to meet both state and national standards for financial literacy education. The Nevada Council on Economic Education offers the FFFL workshop for high school teachers from Washoe, Carson, Douglas, Elko, Lyon, White Pine, Nye, and other counties in the northern part of the state. This will put critical information about the use of checking accounts, credit and savings instruments into the hands of students as they reach the time in their life when a lack of understanding about financial matters leads to poor financial decisions and risky consumer behaviors, such as carrying too much consumer debt and failing to save money for the future.$0$0
