“A strong partnership of parents and teachers to provide an academic, social and culturally rich environment for the fishkill plains students. Through the use of meaningful programs and effective fundraising, we enhance learning experiences, strengthen communication between home and school, advocate for our students and celebrate every child.”

“Arts in education (boces) programs/educational gifts: programs: pta sponsors various educational and grade-appropriate in school assemblies during the day based on teacher input such as mad science, colonial times, authors, story tellers, and butterfly shows. Educational gifts: pta sponsors a program whereby teachers are reimbursed for supplies purchased for classroom use. The reimbursement is a up to a predetermined dollar amount each year based on the number of the teachers in the school for that year.”

“Parents as reading partners. Pta ran a ten-month parp program in accordance with the pta guidelines to support literacy throughout the school community. Parp holds literacy nights for both students and parents, contests, dress-up days and projects due monthly to enhance student literacy and to show how fun reading can be. It puts numerous books in the hands of all students and teachers throughout the school.”

“Teacher appreciation: pta sponsors a welcome-back breakfast in september and a week long teacher appreciation program during the spring. There is usually a luncheon one day and various other events throughout the week (including small teacher gifts) to thank the teachers for all they do during the year.”

“Battle of the books: pta supports the school in the district-wide battle of the books program and purchased the t-shirts for the students representing our school in the competition. Breakfast w/ the principal: students join the principal for breakfast. Drama club: the pta provides paint, brushes, props, etc. Environmental club: the pta provides supplies such as seeds, organic dirt, etc. Field day: the pta supplies breakfast for parent volunteers, staff shirts, and other supplies for the student field day activities. Fifth grade celebration: pta provides a specified dollar amount to be used toward the fifth grade celebration for the graduating students. Healthy steps: promotes healthly lifestyles for children and their families. Children and their parents log their steps for a three week period. Safety team: pta purchases items for the safety buckets to be stored in all common areas such as the gym, music room, art room and computer room. These buckets contain water and fruit snacks to be provided to students in case of an extended lock-down in the school. Science fair: the pta coordinates this event for grades k-4 and provides ribbons to the winners who are judged by the staff from the school. Student social (family fun nightfn): pta hosts several themed student socials in the evening throughout the year for students to attend (e.g. Winter dance, game night, etc.) talent show: students of all grades have the opportunity to showcase their talent.”
