“Programs and assemblies: funds used to pay for arts in education (boces) programs. Money is used for curriculum resources, guest instructors, etc, which provides enrichment to the standard curriculum for specific programs throughout the year.”
“Grade specific assistance: these funds are divided equally for each grade level to be used at the school's discretion, based upon what the teachers feel that each grade level needs. The goal is so supplement each grade's resources, whether it be supplies, curriculum, etc. For example, some of the 1st grade money may go to plant a vegetable garden to go along with a science lesson. Some of the 5th grade money goes to graduation ceremonies. The money may also go to books for the classrooms.”
“Fifth grade moving up: the pta supplements the school's ceremony and gives each child a small graduation gift. Health & fire safety: the local fire department comes in to offer a fire safety program for all students. The pta provides food for the firefighters as a thank you. Volunteer appreciation: annual lunch for all volunteers. This is also the budget vote and officer election meeting. Staff appreciation: meals are served at both schools for the staff during national teacher/ staff appreciation week. Parp: parents as reading partners program to promote reading at home. The pta organizes the program and provides an event at the end of the weeks. Test incentives: the pta provides motivational pencils for all students during state exams. Parent-child night: a district event in each school where a doctor or nurse speaks to 4th and 5th graders on adolescence and body changes. Sanitary items are provided. Student assistance: used for students who are not able to pay for a class support item, such as recorders for music class. Field day: all grades receive a field day at the end of the year. The pta provides popsicles. Student orientation: incoming 3rd graders are invited to visit west rd over the summer. Refreshments are served. Ice cream social: event to accompany the budget vote. Families are invited to participate in the event, which encourages community involvement in the school. Family nights: event around the holidays in which kids can come make several crafts for a very small fee. Encourages family involvement in the school.”
