Part iii, line 1 - the society's collections consist of_artlfacts of historical significance to the boothbary region of maine that are held for educational, research, and curatorial purposes. Each item is catalogued, preserved, and cared for, and activities verifying their existence and assessing their condition are performed on a continuous basis. Schedule d, part iii, line 4 - the mission of the society is to promote interest in and to preserve the history of the boothbay region of maine. To that end, the society collects, preserves, and exhibits regional artifacts and documents,serving as a repository for items that are emblems of the region's past. The society has approximately 5200 regional artifacts, including such things as fishing gear from the 1800s, household items from the 1700s spring bottles from the 1900s, and various civil war paraphernalia. The society has approximately 250 linear feet of original documents, including store, blacksmith and fish house books, family papers, and research on various local subkects such as houses, families, and businesses. The society has about 15,000 images, 10 linear feet of electronic media and 50 feet of published books. The society mounts special exhibits for the general public. The collections are open free of charge to the general public on multiple days of the week for viewing and research. The society also undertakes research to help those seeking information. The society has a fine reputation as a research facility. The society promotes interest in its collecion by maintaining a website, regularly submitting historical articles to the local newspaper, creating and selling historical books and maps, issuing several newsletters per year, encouraging school visits and presenting speakers on local historical subjects. Schedule d, part v, line 4 - the endowment fund is maintained to generate income to subsidize a portion of the annual budget and to provide a source of funds to alleviate unanticipated and severe financial hardship on the organization.”
