A CONTINUOUS AWARENESS AND EDUCATIONAL CAMPAIGN THROUGH THE AIR QUALITY PARTNERSHIP OF THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY IN CUMBERLAND, DAUPHIN, LANCASTER, LEBANON AND YORK COUNTIES THAT FOCUSED ON IMPROVING AIR QUALITY THROUGH VOLUNTARY COMMUNITY, BUSINESS AND PERSONAL ACTION STEPS--THIS CAMPAIGN SPEARHEADED AN EFFORT TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF COMMUNITIES AND BUSINESSES THAT WERE IDENTIFIED AS DESIGNATED "BICYCLE FRIENDLY" THROUGH A NATIONAL APPLICATION PROCESS, A STRONG INDICATOR OF EFFORTS TO IMPROVE AIR QUALITY. THIS CAMPAIGN COLLABORATED WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY, LANCASTER GENERAL HEALTH AND THE LEAGUE OF AMERICAN BICYCLISTS RESULTING IN COMPLETED APPLICATIONS FOR 2 COMMUNITIES, 17 BUSINESSES, AND 3 UNIVERSITIES WITH 16 DESIGNATIONS BEING AWARDED. A continuous awareness and educational campaign through the air quality partnership of the susquehanna valley in cumberland, dauphin, lancaster, lebanon and york counties that focused on improving air quality through voluntary community, business and personal action steps--this campaign spearheaded an effort to increase the number of communities and businesses that were identified as designated "bicycle friendly" through a national application process, a strong indicator of efforts to improve air quality. This campaign collaborated with the pennsylvania department of environmental protection agency, lancaster general health and the league of american bicyclists resulting in completed applications for 2 communities, 17 businesses, and 3 universities with 16 designations being awarded. In addition, over 3,500 residents were reached during the campaign with educational materials.

Establishment and implementation of public outreach forums (discussion groups & public forums) using the "bicycle friendly america" campaign sponsored by the league of american bicyclists focusing on the improvement of transportation infrastructure that supports safety & encouragement within communities for multi-modal transportation choices for residents, employees and students. Improved multi-modal transportation infrastructure is a strong indicator that communities and the business community are committed to improving air quality for their residents and employees. Dream ride projects initiated, hosted or sponsored 21 such forums in cooperation with various bicycling and air quality advocate coalition organizations that reached 2,008 residents and community leaders throughout the central pa region.

THIS CAMPAIGN COLLABORATED WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY, LANCASTER GENERAL HEALTH AND THE LEAGUE OF AMERICAN BICYCLISTS RESULTING IN COMPLETED APPLICATIONS FOR 2 COMMUNITIES, 17 BUSINESSES, AND 3 UNIVERSITIES WITH 16 DESIGNATIONS BEING AWARDED. IN ADDITION, OVER 3,500 RESIDENTS WERE REACHED DURING THE CAMPAIGN WITH EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS.

IMPROVED MULTI-MODAL TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE IS A STRONG INDICATOR THAT COMMUNITIES AND THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY ARE COMMITTED TO IMPROVING AIR QUALITY FOR THEIR RESIDENTS AND EMPLOYEES. DREAM RIDE PROJECTS INITIATED, HOSTED OR SPONSORED 21 SUCH FORUMS IN COOPERATION WITH VARIOUS BICYCLING AND AIR QUALITY ADVOCATE COALITION ORGANIZATIONS THAT REACHED 2,008 RESIDENTS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS THROUGHOUT THE CENTRAL PA REGION.
