Activity 2

Communication and member services - dvg served members, nonprofit organizations, civic leaders, policymakers and the media with an array of communications services, supplying information about ideas, trends and developments in local and national philanthropy. Communications vehicles included: 1) a website with regular updates of news, events, resources and member directory listings; 2) a monthly members' update - emailed 12 times a year to 800+ individuals representing member organizations; 3) a year-end members' memo presenting program highlights of 2012. In addition, members were provided with individualized research and consultation on an as-needed basis. In 2012, dvg engaged in a strategic planning process to craft a vision for the organization's future. The process culminated in the release of dvg's strategic plan framework 2013-2015, which forms the basis for a clear direction for leadership decision-making and action and member involvement in the years ahead.

Activity 3

Community outreach and recruitment - dvg staff and leadership worked to raise the organization's profile and enhance awareness about the philanthropic sector through speaking engagements, volunteer service and other outreach and interaction with regional nonprofit and community organizations and civic leaders. Dvg also collaborated with local and national organizations on joint programming, including co-sponsoring a workshop on strategic partnerships whcih explored national trends in funders working collaboratively to support and facilitate nonprofic alliances. Dvg staff devoted time and resources towards member recruitment in order to increase the number and diversity of our members and in turn enhance the organization's role as a philanthropic leader; in 2012 the organization attracted 10 new members.
