Mission

Share is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger by expanding access to healthy, affordable food. Share builds a strong community response to poverty and hunger and fosters volunteerism that increases access to healthy, wholesome food.

As the largest serving hunger-relief organization in the greater philadelphia region, share food program's mission is reducing regional food insecurity by providing nourishing food to a network of community-based partners and directly to individuals in need. Over the course of 2024 share served more than 2.9 million individuals in philadelphia, bucks, chester, delaware, and montgomery counites.share food program leads the fights against food insecurity in the greater philadelphia region by serving an expansive, quality partner network of community-based organizations and school districts engaged in food distribution, education, and food justice advocacy.

SHARE IS ALSO THE ONLY NONPROFIT IN THE NATION TO MANAGE THE REGIONAL NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM, PROVIDING NUTRITIOUS FOOD TO THE REGION'S 305,000 STUDENTS ACROSS 800 SCHOOLS AND 70 DISTRICTS. IN ADDITION, SHARE FEEDS NEARLY 7,000 VULNERABLE OLDER ADULTS THROUGH ITS SENIOR FOOD BOX PROGRAM AND LEADS THE REGION IN HOME DELIVERIES OF FOOD ASSISTANCE TO SENIORS, WITH MORE THAN 3,500 RECEIVING FOOD BOXES DIRECTLY AT THEIR DOORSTEP THROUGH AN INNOVATIVE PARTNERSHIP WITH DOORDASH. ITS PHILLY FOOD RESCUE PROGRAM SOURCES SURPLUS FOOD AND REDISTRIBUTES IT TO COMMUNITIES IN NEED, DIVERTING 500,000 LBS. OF FRESH FOOD FROM LANDFILLS EVERY MONTH. NICE ROOTS FARM, SHARE'S ONSITE URBAN AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION PROJECT, DONATES OVER 4,700 LBS. OF ORGANIC PRODUCE TO THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY AND HOSTS 25+ FIELD TRIPS FOR LOCAL STUDENTS EACH YEAR. SHARE FOOD PROGRAM ALSO SUPPLIES FRESH PRODUCE AND NUTRITIONAL EDUCATION TO APPROXIMATELY 1,100 FAMILIES WITHIN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF PHILADELPHIA EACH MONTH.
