FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

In pursuit of optimal support for injured persons in pennsylvania, the pennsylvania trauma systems foundation exists to establish accreditation standards while promoting the advancement of trauma services. The pennsylvania trauma systems foundation is committed to the reduction of death and disability caused by trauma and the provision of expeditious, quality health care that is evidence based.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Pennsylvania trauma systems foundation (the "foundation") was organized to develop a voluntary accreditation program for trauma centers in the commonwealth of pennsylvania. The commonwealth's medical services act, which was signed into law in 1985, recognized the foundation and established its mandate. The foundation has developed standards for operation of trauma centers in pennsylvania, now known as the standards for trauma center accreditation (the "standards"). In addition, the foundation uses these standards to evaluate pennsylvania hospitals, which apply to the foundation to determine if they meet the standards. The foundation also conducts site survey visits using independent survey teams to determine if applicant hospitals meet the standards, and maintains an appeals mechanism to reevaluate accreditation decisions. The foundation also conducts education and research programs and maintains a state-wide trauma registry, now known as the pennsylvania trauma outcome study.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 3, Part X

Accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america require managment to evaluate tax positions taken by the foundation. Management evaluated the tax positions taken and concluded that the foundation had taken no uncertain tax positions that require recognition or disclosure in the financial statements. No provision or benefit for income taxes has been included in these financial statements. With few exceptions, the foundation is no longer subject to income tax examinations by the u.s. Federal, state or local tax authorities for years before december 31, 2018.
