Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 4:

The reading company technical and historical society (rct&hs) has assembled one of the largest collections in the u.s. Pertaining to a single railroad. The collections include over 80 significant examples of the reading company's locomotives, freight, passenger, training and work equipment; a comprehensive archive of reading railroad photographs, documents, and maps pertaining to the railroad's people, facilities, equipment, and operations; and hundreds of artifacts including tools, signals, train-dispatching boards, a 100-foot turntable, and examples of many other pieces of reading railroad hardware. The rct&hs operates the reading railroad heritage museum in hamburg, pa as an interpretive center for the collections. The reading railroad was unlike any other railroads because of its limited territory and national impact. It served from 1838 to 1976, shaping communities and the environment, as its efficient transportation of coal from the mines to the factory fueled the industrial revolution of the entire northeast. The reading railroad heritage museum is the only institution interpreting the significance of the reading railroad to the nation and to the communities it served. It uses its collections to provide interpretive and educational opportunities for students and for the public, facilities for conservation and research, preservation of historical rail equipment, and preservation of historical archives and artifacts of the reading railroad.

PART X, LINE 2:

Accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america require management to evaluate tax positions taken by the organization, including whether the entity is exempt from income taxes. Management evaluated the tax positions taken and concluded that the organization had taken no uncertain tax positions that require recognition or disclosure in the financial statements. Therefore, no provision or liability for income taxes has been included in the financial statements. With few exceptions, the organization is no longer subject to income tax examinations by the u. S. Federal, state or local tax authorities for years before december 31, 2017.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0THE READING COMPANY TECHNICAL AND HISTORICAL SOCIETY (RCT&HS) HAS ASSEMBLED ONE OF THE LARGEST COLLECTIONS IN THE U.S.
IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1ACCOUNTING PRINCIPLES GENERALLY ACCEPTED IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA REQUIRE MANAGEMENT TO EVALUATE TAX POSITIONS TAKEN BY THE ORGANIZATION, INCLUDING WHETHER THE ENTITY IS EXEMPT FROM INCOME TAXES.
