A conflict of interest policy was developed by the executive committee and approved by the board. Twice a year at the board meetings, the board members are asked to read the conflict of interest policy and report on any changes that may have occurred since the last review. Each board member submits a signed form annually.

An annual review to determine compensation for the executive director is scheduled for each august. The review is done by the executive committee of the board and then the president of the board meets with the executive director to discuss the results of the review. Compensation for the executive director is determined by the finance committee and the executive committee based on the budget.

Form 990

Child, home and community (chc), a nonprofit organization, is committed to "building a better future for children" through prenatal and parenting education, support and advocacy to over 500 adolescents as well as pregancy awareness workshops to over 3,000 students each year in bucks and montgomery counties. The programs, held in 8 hospitals, clinics and 15 school districts, include prenatal education, family support groups, in-school peer support workshops, fatherhood workshops, career counseling, case management and home visits. Chc clients gain the skills and support necessary to help themselves and their families. Clients are provided the support and encouragement to finish high school and or further their education to improve their chances of steady employment. The road to independence is a web based program that uses workshops and individual case management to assist parents in their career development and placement through exploration of values, interests and career choices, combined with job readiness skills and tools to obtain and maintain a successful career leading to self-sufficiency. Chc also provides teen pregnancy awareness, decision making and prevention workshops to middle and high school students in 15 school districts throughout bucks and montgomery counties. These workshops are designed to create the awareness in the minds of non-pregnant students in middle and high school health classes about the long-term effects of pregnancy and parenting, to dispel romantic illusions of parenting and motivate teens to prevent untimely pregnancy. Chc's programs have proven successful at improving the lives of over 500 young moms and dads each year. The programs make available prenatal and parenting education and support to high risk populations that ordinarily might not have access to such services. The programs historically have reduced pre-term births, increased birth weights and decreased repeat pregnancies, all of which aid in improving the health and well-being of mothers and their children. Chc's programs have helped both young moms and dads to improve decision making and parenting skills, which has resulted in increased graduation and employment rates as well as reducing abuse and neglect for their children. By investing today in the lives of these young children, chc is growing stronger communities for tomorrow.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 3, Part X

The organization is exempt from federal income taxes under provisions of section 501 (c)(3) of the internal revenue code, and from pennsylvania taxation under the applicable provisions of the commonwealth's non-profit organization statutes. Chc utilizes asc 740-10, accounting for uncertainty in income taxes, as it related to uncertain tax positions. Management has reviewed its current and past federal and state income tax positions, and has determined that the tax positions taken are certain and there is no likelihood that a material tax assessment would be made if the respective government agencies examined the tax returns subject to audit. Accordingly, no provision for the effect of uncertain tax positions has been recorded, nor have any related interest and penalties been accrued. The irs and state taxing authorities retain the right to review filed tax returns, generally for three years after they are filed. However, chc is no longer subject to income tax examinations for years prior to 2011, is not currently under audit, and has not been contacted by any of these tax jurisdictions.
