These volunteers served in many different roles including: patient/family volunteers in home hospice, our inpatient unit and nursing homes; pet therapy; music support; bereavement support; office support; greeting and welcoming visitors; development and fundraising; community relations and education; and grounds maintenance.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Hospice follows the standards for accounting for uncertainty in income taxes according to the principles of asc 740, income taxes, which prescribes a recognition threshold and measurement attribute for the financial statement recognition and measurement of a tax position taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. Accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america require management to evaluate tax positions taken by hospice, including whether the entity is exempt from income taxes. Management evaluated the tax positions taken and concluded that hospice had taken no uncertain tax positions that require recognition or disclosure in the financial statements. Therefore, no provision or liability for income taxes has been included in the financial statements. With few exceptions, hospice is no longer subject to income tax examinations by the u.s. Federal, state, or local tax authorities for years before 2016.

DURING THE CURRENT YEAR, HOSPICE & COMMUNITY CARE PROVIDED OVER 161,000 PATIENT DAYS OF HOSPICE CARE TO PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES AND SERVED 3,718 PATIENTS DURING THE YEAR, REGARDLESS OF THE PATIENT'S ABILITY TO PAY. OVER THREE PERCENT OF THE PATIENT DAYS OF HOSPICE CARE WERE CHARITABLE CARE. OVER 30,000 DAYS OF INTERDISCIPLINARY SUPPORTIVE CARE WERE PROVIDED TO 330 PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES, REGARDLESS OF THE PATIENT'S ABILITY TO PAY. PHYSICIANS COMPLETED OVER 15,000 HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE CARE VISITS TO PATIENTS IN THEIR PRIVATE HOMES, NURSING HOMES, HOSPITALS, PHYSICIAN CLINIC AND HOSPICE INPATIENT UNIT. THE BEREAVEMENT PROGRAM SUPPORTED 8,971 INDIVIDUALS DURING THE CURRENT YEAR THROUGH 238 SUPPORT GROUPS, ALMOST 39,000 PIECES OF MAIL, ALMOST 4,000 TELEPHONE CALLS AND 745 INDIVIDUAL VISITS.
