We are dedicated to fostering an environment where individuals can be their true selves and feel empowered to stand up to all forms of oppression.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america require management to evaluate tax positions taken by the agency, including whether the entity is exempt from income taxes. Management evaluated the tax positions taken and concluded that the agency had no uncertain tax positions that require recognition or disclosure in the financial statements. Therefore, no provision or liability for income taxes have been included in the financial statements. With few exceptions, the agency is no longer subject to income tax examinations by the u.s. Federal, state, or local tax authorities for years prior to the year ended june 30, 2018.

THE PROGRAM ASSISTS VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE BY PROVIDING INSTRUCTION IN LIFE AND MONEY MANAGEMENT SKILLS, CREATING A SAFE ENVIRONMENT, BUILDING SELF-ESTEEM AND SELF-AWARENESS, AND UNDERSTANDING THE EFFECTS OF DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE. THE PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES INDIVIDUAL CASE MANAGERS, ALONG WITH SUPPORT AND HOUSING MEETINGS.THE COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND OUTREACH DEPARTMENT DELIVERS PREVENTION, AWARENESS, AND EDUCATIONAL TRAININGS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY AT LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS, COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, AND OTHER BUSINESSES. WHEN A PERSON PRESENTS TO A HEALTHCARE FACILITY OR HOSPITAL AS A PATIENT AND DISCLOSES, THEY HAVE BEEN A VICTIM OF INTERPERSONAL VIOLENCE OR SEXUAL ASSAULT, THE HEALTHCARE STAFF CONTACTS OUR HOTLINE FOR A MAPP ADVOCATE TO PROVIDE AN IN-PERSON RESPONSE. UPON MEETING WITH THE PATIENT, THE MAPP ADVOCATE WILL ASSESS THE PATIENT'S NEEDS, ASSIST WITH SAFETY PLANNING, AND CONNECT THEM WITH OTHER SAFE BERKS SUPPORT SERVICES OR APPROPRIATE COMMUNITY RESOURCES. IN 2021, THE MAPP ADVOCATES PROVIDED THESE SERVICES TO 345 CLIENTS. IN ADDITION TO THE HEALTHCARE FACILITY RESPONSE, THIS DEPARTMENT HAS 2 OVERNIGHT RAPID RESPONSE ADVOCATES WHO PROVIDE SUPPORT SERVICES TO SURVIVORS AT THE BERKS COUNTY COURTHOUSE WHILE FILING A PETITION FOR AN EMERGENCY PROTECTION FROM ABUSE ORDER. IN 2021, THE RAPID RESPONSE ADVOCATE PROVIDED THESE SUPPORT SERVICES TO 523 CLIENTS. MAPP ADVOCATES ALSO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL TRAININGS TO HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS AND THEIR STAFF MEMBERS. THE CAMPUS ADVOCATE TRAVELS AROUND TO THE FIVE (5) COLLEGE CAMPUSES IN BERKS COUNTY TO PROVIDE SUPPORT SERVICES TO STUDENTS, STAFF, FACULTY, AND ADMINISTRATORS WHO ARE VICTIMS OF INTERPERSONAL VIOLENCE AND/OR SEXUAL ASSAULT. ADDITIONALLY, THE CAMPUS ADVOCATE PROVIDES PREVENTION AND AWARENESS PROGRAMMING ON THE VARIOUS CAMPUSES. SART COORDINATOR PROVIDES SUPPORT SERVICES TO THE NON-OFFENDING CAREGIVERS AT THE CHILDREN'S ALLIANCE CENTER, SYSTEMS ADVOCACY TO ALL SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT, AND EDUCATIONAL TRAININGS TO LAW ENFORCEMENT, PARTNER AGENCIES, AND OTHER COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS. THE CORS ADVOCATE PROVIDES SUPPORT SERVICES TO SURVIVORS OF INTERPERSONAL VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT BERKS COUNTY AT SATELITE OFFICES INCLUDING FRIEND, INC. AND THE BERKS TECHNICAL INSTITUTE. THIS ADVOCATE PROVIDES PREVENTION, AWARENESS, AND EDUCATIONAL TRAININGS WITHIN THE COMMUNITY AND IS RESPONSIBLE TO STRENGTHEN EXISTING AND FORM NEW COLLABORATIONS AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH OTHER SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES AND ORGANIZATIONS.
