THE ASSOCIATION ALSO PUBLISHES MANUALS, PURSUES POLICY INITIATIVES, AND PROVIDES PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO ITS MEMBERS. APDIM SERVES MEMBERS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA. EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2012 THE APDIM MERGED WITH AAIM AND EFFECTIVE JUNE 30, 2013 ALL ASSETS HAD BEEN TRANSFERRED TO AAIM.

(Herinafter referred to as AAIM) was originally created as a consortium of five academically focused specialty organizations representing departments of internal medicine at medical schools and teaching hospitals. The five organizations are considered the charter members of AAIM. APDIM is one of the five charter members. During fiscal year 2009, APDIM and the other four charter members agreed to merge with one another to form AAIM. In February 2010 AAIM adopted bylaws and in April 2010 AAIM was incorporated in Delaware. The charter members agreed to transfer net assets over a three year period. APDIM agreed for its merger to be effective July 1, 2012. In accordance with the AAIM bylaws, at merger date the APDIM Board of Directors became an advisory council to the AAIM Board of Directors. Further at merger each charter member has three seats on the AAIM Board of Directors. The individuals appointed to the positions of Council president, Council president-elect, and Council past president fill those three seats and change on an annual basis.
