Mission

Workforce institute (wfi) educates, trains and places individuals with limited access to resources to meet employers' changing workforce needs. Through a supportive learning environment and personalized attention, wfi transforms lives by building a path to sustainable careers and economic independence.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Computer technology institute - the mcc/business technology/strive program was established at mcc in january 1997 and is modeled after the highly successful strive (support training results in valuable employees) program developed by east harlem employment service in 1985 and since replicated in numerous locations throughout the united states and internationally. The program consists of 10-week classroom component followed by job club/job search activities. During classroom training, in addition to attitudinal training, students learn basic computer skills. The job skills training program combines hard skills training with workshops from the mcc/business technology/strive program. Hard skills training builds competencies that are required for administrative support and customer service positions. The mcc/strive program workshops focus on the soft skills including time management, interpersonal skills and customer service, to help graduates thrive in these customer-centered fields. Upon gaining employment, students receive follow-up retention services to help them maintain their jobs.the metropolitan career center computer technolgoy program was established in 1995, and was developed over a therr=-year period with assistance from 60 area businesses. It orginally provided 54 weeks of technical, academic, and customer service training in computer hardware and software support to 50 students per year. During the year ended june 30, 1998, the computer technology in software. The program is 60 weeks long and is divided into four 15-week semesters. In august 2001, the program was approved by the state board of private licensed schools to offer a third degree in computer technology web design/programming. Originally approved on march 28, 2003, however amended on may 7, 2008, computer technology institute offers a 9 month licensed diploma program in medical office specialist, approved by the state board of private licensed schools.
