Independence, expand access to essential services, and obtain assistive devices. Sights for hope also works to prevent vision loss and improve school readiness by promoting healthy vision habits and connecting pre-kindergarten children with professional eye care. Most programs and services are provided at no cost to participants. Founded in response to a challenge issued by helen keller, sights for hope has served the lehigh valley region since 1928 and monroe county since 2003. The broader impacts of sights for hope's work include reduced financial strain related to assistive living; decreased reliance on governmental assistance programs, medicare, and private health insurance; increased economic participation by individuals with vision loss; and improved literacy and educational outcomes for children. Sights for hope is an independent member of the pennsylvania association for the blind (pab) and the visionserve alliance.

Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

Support the operational activities of the organization

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization is exempt from federal income tax under internal revenue code 501(c)(3). The accounting standard for uncertainty in income taxes addresses the determination of whether tax benefits claimed or expected to be claimed on a tax return should be recorded in the financial statements. Under that guidance, the organization may recognize the tax benefits from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely-than-not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by taxing authorities based on the technical merits of the position. Examples of tax positions include the tax-exempt status of the organization and various positions related to the potential sources of unrelated business taxable income (ubit). The tax benefits recognized in the financial statements from such a position are measured based on the largest benefit that has a greater than 50% likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. There were no unrecognized tax benefits identified or recorded as liabilities for fiscal year 2025. The organization files its 990 with the united states internal revenue service. The organization is generally no longer subject to examination by the internal revenue service for years before 2023.
