Mission

Horticultural & botanical education and research. The objectives of the gesneriad society are to afford a convenient and beneficial association of persons interested in gesneriads, to stimulate a widespread interest in gesneraids, gather and publish reliable information about the identification, correct nomenclature, culture and propagation of gesneriads; and to encourage the origination and introduction of new cultivars.

Governance Explanations

Member election for additional members Part VI line 7A

“All members of the society at the societys annual meeting and convention each july vote on a slate of seven directors for three-year terms. They also vote on the officers of the society at that time as well. The membership is informed approximately three months in advance (of those persons nominated by the nominating committee to the board and as officers for the coming year). The membership is free to offer additional nominations at the annual meeting for both directors and officers.”

“The members must approve any changes to the societys bylaws. The members are notified in advance (in the societys magazine) of the bylaw.”

“Form 990 is prepared by an independent party and sent to the treasurer and president for review and comparison with the data required to complete the return. Both before and after it is filed a copy is also available to all members requesting a copy. A copy is also available to board members at the mid-year retreat held in february of each year.”
