“In July 2019, VCSJ launched the Nonprofit Institute (NPI), which formalizes the training and education of the VIP 2.0 program. NPI offers low to no cost trainings, focused on capacity building through volunteer engagement. Currently, curricula are offered in the areas of volunteer management, board development and service enterprise. These on-site professional development opportunities are affordable and well designed curriculum. VCSJs relationship with Rowan College of South Jersey is stronger than ever, as we have much bigger exposure, becoming increasingly integrated with the students and staff, across Gloucester and Cumberland campuses. In October 2019, VCSJ recognized over 100 volunteers at the Annual Spirit of the Community event. There were 70 Presidential Awards given to NJ citizens recognizing their commitment and true passion in making a difference in their communities. Other awards included recognition from nonprofit agencies for Volunteer of the Year and Volunteer Manager of the Year. The business community recognized their HEROES (Honoring Excellence, Rewarding Outstanding Employee Service) by celebrating a star employee who has dedicated time, talent, and resources to making a difference in the local community and whose unwaivering commitment has served as an example and an inspiration to the entire organization. Other prestigious awards included a Distinguished Youth Award, which recognizes community leaders between the ages of 14 and 23 who have made a great impact in the community and the South Jersey Humanitarian Award, honors a leader who has consistently gone above and beyond to make his/her community a better place through their commitment to volunteerism and selfless acts of service. In November 2019, VCSJ hosted its 3rd Annual Making a Difference Together fair to celebrate National Family Volunteer Day on November 23, 2019 bringing together families who completed service projects for local nonprofit agencies. In December 2019, VCSJ formalized a Premier Partnership with Jersey Cares, a leading volunteer organization in New Jersey. Their mission, which complements that of VCSJ, is to increase the level of meaningful volunteer engagement by creating and managing impactful service projects that address critical community-identified needs. The partnership will allow both the Volunteer Center of South Jersey and Jersey Cares to complement and grow their services by expanding: the managed volunteer engagement model to South Jersey counties and providing nonprofit education resources to those counties in the central and northern part of the state. COVID-19 Response changed the landscape of volunteering in New Jersey, causing a shift for the Volunteer Center. We created and enhanced the virtual volunteer opportunity.
