“OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Red Bank RiverCenter 2019 Activities and Accomplishments:In 2019 Red Bank RiverCenter (the Special Improvement District for the Borough of Red Bank, NJ)advanced its mission to cultivate and promote a thriving economic environment in downtown Red Bank. To further this, we began implementation of the five-year strategic plan developed in 2018. 2019 activities included review and re-organization of our board committee structure and creation of new advisory councils focused on targeted segments of Red Bank's business sector; review and revision of our by-laws; and collaboration with the Borough of Red Bank to secure NJ State Transit Village status for Red Bank.We continued our multi-pronged approach that employs programs in business recruitment and retention, marketing and promotions, design and infrastructure, and community support.Business Recruitment and Retention:RiverCenter spent countless hours reaching out to prospective business owners, showing them the town. If their opening involved construction and/or renovation of their space, our member architects, designers and developers met with them to help ensure their proposals met local guidelines and to assist them in navigating the permitting process for construction and/or change of use. Our staff and board members attended hearings to support applications for new businesses and for expanding businesses. We helped train a spotlight on new businesses by promoting and helping them to mount effective grand opening celebrations.Marketing & Promotions: Using a multi-modal approach, we marketed the Red Bank business district to our own residents, neighboring communities and counties, statewide, and into the tristate region including New York City and Philadelphia. We have updated and distributed the Red Bank Dining Guide through our businesses, hotels, theaters, realtors, and through the Red Bank gift card program. We spearheaded promotional events that brought tens of thousands of people into town and introduced them to our restaurants, retailers and service providers. These included: Sunday in the Park with the NJ Symphony, Annual Sidewalk Sale, Streetlife live music and arts program, Guinness Oyster Festival, and a full complement of holiday events including a Santa Express train ride, Holiday Express Concert, town and tree lighting, free horse and wagon rides, and weekly entertainment by carolers and musicians. We initiated a new holiday event, "Winter on Broad" in which we put an ice skating rink in the middle of Broad Street in the heart of our shopping district. Held on a Sunday in December, the event attracted hundreds of families with kids who then stayed in town to shop and dine.Design & Infrastructure: In tandem with the streetscape improvement project, we secured a $13,000 grant from the NJ DCA's Main Street New Jersey, and commissioned a pair of murals for a gateway location in the project area. This project was begun in June and completed in November. We reviewed and commented on more than 50 construction proposals and worked with business owners and the borough to ensure facades and signage met guidelines. Community Support: In 2019, RiverCenter distributed more than $20,000 in cash donations and Red Bank Gift Cards to local charities.”
