“Asian americans united (aau) exists so that people of asian ancestry in the philadelphia area exercise leadership to build their communities and unite to challenge oppression. Aau's arts and culture work creates social change by engaging community members in: building leadership and community, realizing community members' inherent artistic and creative potential, and building pride in cultural heritage. Aau's youth work supports youth become individually, socially, and politically aware; exercise their voice; and participate in active struggles for justice. Through this work, we create leaders who sustain, fight for, and give back to our communities.”

“See schedule o aau works diligently to meet the needs of our community, which which continues to face anti-asian racism and xenophobia. We advance narrative change to fight the model minority myth, such as by highlighting the working-class stories through the "our chinatown" storytelling project that provides an experiential learning experience. Our civc engagement program promotes active citizenship by hosting citizenship clinics, and reviewing and referring eligible candidates to our legal partners for additional assistance. The program engages u.s. Citizens to excercise their right to vote by hosting voter registration events, conducting get out the vote work to encourage people to vote, and polling monitoring to continue enforcement of language access as required under the fedeeral voting rights act. Our renewed immigration program provides much-needed support to impacted people and families. We organize a collective voice and people power against displacement, most recently in opposition to the proposed 76ers arena that threatens our precious chinatown neighborhood. Aau convened hundreds of allies and supporters across city council hearings, town hall meetings, educational teach-ins, artistic and cultural events, and other grassroots organizing to push back and defend chinatown's very existence. We anchoring the successful "no arena in the heart of our city" coalition that worked with partners across the entire city and is continuing to develop new visions for fighting displacement of communities of color and working-class communities. In addition to community activations, aau's work centers on nurturing the next generation of leaders. Through our youth leadership programs, aau youth advocates for immigrant rights and against discrimination in education; mobilized hundreds of youth peers against the arena; highlighted chinatown stories; facilitated workshops and community meetings with powerful decision-makers; testified before city council and the mayor; and taught dozens of elementary-school youth about multicultural literacy and education for liberation. The chinese youth organizing project (cyop) continues to provide safe spaces for immigrant youth to explore issues important to them. Over 300 youth volunteered at the 29th annual mid-autumn festival, which featured folk arts and cultural performances, arts activities, carnival games, community resources, and culminating lantern parade.”
