Mission

The organization strives to improve the quality of life of the people of the city of camden and its surrounding communities by promoting affordable housing and neighborhood development. Through our initiatives, we encourage people to take charge of their lives and become active community members.

The organization targets neighborhood redevelopment, homebuyer education, and community engagement to improve the quality of life and create safe neighborhoods.

Form 990 is reviewed by staff and the finance and audit committee. Once approved by both, form 990 is forwarded to the entire board of trustees for review and is formally approved at a board meeting.

IRS990/Desc0Construction, rehabilitation, and sale of homes to qualified individuals and their families; homeownership training and education programs held throughout the year; neighborhood revitalization through residential repairs and placemaking. In 2019 SJCS sold 12 homes to local families, reclaiming abandoned homes and rehabbing them up to code. 263 people graduated from academy classes out of the 308 attending. SJCS also worked with 66 existing homeowners to stabilize their homes through a small repair program and 36 homeowners to achieve a lead-safe home through remediation. SJCS also worked with stakeholders on other community stabilization efforts, including park upgrades and programming and infrastructure improvements.
