“Lower enrollment rates at colleges for minorities are due to differences in access to financial resources. Household wealth is very important when it comes to paying for college since families tend to draw upon their wealth, take out mortgages, cash in stocks or seek other means to finance their childs college education. Minority students have long encountered hurdles to attending college. And while enrollment rates are on the rise, minority students still often face an uphill battle covering tuition and associated fees. Thats why scholarships and other financial assistance are vitally important in helping minority students achieve their college and career dreams. The organization awarded scholarships totaling 8,500 during the year to help students further their educational endeavors. The organization has several major program initiatives targeted to enrich, sustain and ensure the culture and economic survival of african americans and other persons of african ancestry. Health and human services the mission of the health and human services facet is to promote and facilitate programs that support the maintenance of good health and the elimination of chronic health disparities in communities of color through education, health advocacy, and optimal utilization of health resources. National trends and services the vision of the national trends and services facet is to eliminate disparities by reducing barriers to services through advocacy, education, and service. Services to youth the purpose of the services to youth facet is to equip black youth to use their intellect and spirit of achievement to become successful and productive citizens. Today, the central new jersey (nj) chapter of the links, incorporated continues to implement aligned, integrated and transformational programs that are responsive to the academic, health, cultural, social awareness, career development, and mentoring needs of youth. Mentoring initiative launched mentoring effort with the young scholars institute of trenton. Through this partnership, we have: a) sponsored students to attend relevant cultural and educational film premieres and theatre performances. B) tutored students in core curriculum subject areas. Stem education and career readiness initiative consistent with the national stem education and career readiness initiative, the central new jersey (nj) chapter is committed to working with area students of color to expose them to and prepared them to study stem related careers. Partnered with the young scholars institute of trenton to sponsor a career speaker series for area middle and high school students that focused on personal development, academic readiness, and stem-related educational and career opportunities.”
