Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 3

The meadowlands ymca had to adjust its general operations in march of 2020. This was due to the state of new jersey forcing businesses and organizations to close. Because of the state's mandate the meadowlands ymca had to shut down all remote locations, close the main facility's pool and wellness center and cease its after-school program. We moved our pre-school operations to an emergent center and began servicing children of essential workers. We worked with the american red cross to hold blood drives which resulted in 10 blood drives that collected enough blood to save more than 1,500 lives. The meadowlands ymca provided free internet to underserved areas of the community, assisted individuals who needed to file for unemployment and did not have access from home, we provided computers for virtual learning, developed online programing for families and kids. We continued to teach english as a second language (esl) via zoom, provided more than 1,000 books to children in low-income areas, worked with local hospitals to provide virtual health care for families that did not have computer access, and became a site for covid-19 testing. To help families and individuals with food insecurities, the meadowlands ymca became a food distribution site. We conducted more than 100 distributions, providing more than 1,400,000 meals to over 73,000 families. The food distributions will continue well into 2021.
