Changes to the bylaws were passed by amendment at the business meeting in october 2014. The changes were to expand the detail for the voting process, change the term of a trustee from one year to two years, and to stagger the terms of the trustees.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 6

Trustees of the organization are made up of members of the oganization.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 7A

All officers are nominated and elected at the december meeting. Nominations are opened again immediately prior to the vote at the december meeting. The election is then held at the december meeting. Only eligible voting members may nominate a member and vote. Executive and line officer position votes are elected by ballot. Administrative officer positions are voted by ballot. The successful candidate must receive a majority of legally cast votes to be elected to office.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 8B

While the governing board documents the committees activities in the meetings minutes, no committee has the authority to act on behalf of the governing body.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 11B

Form 990 is reviewed by the treasurer of the board of directors and the preparer. The form 990 is then distributed to all voting board members for their review and comments. A period of time for this review is designated and after comments are resolved, the return is submitted to the irs.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 12C

While there is no formal process for enforcement of the conflict of interest policy, during the annual financial statement presentation, questions are posed to the trustees in regard to conflict of interest. In addition, the questionnaires that are sent out to the trustees include questions regarding conflict of interest. All trustees are required to complete the questionnaire.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 19

The whistleblower policy, conflict of interest policy and document rentention and destruction policy were adopted by the board in july 2009. The governing documents, conflict of interest policy, annual financial statements and form 990 are made available to the general public upon request. In a prior year, the squad requested a copy of the original irs form 1023: application for recognition of exemption under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. The squad received a letter from the irs dated july 14, 2011, stating that all documents prior to january 1, 1948, have been destroyed pursuant to congressional authority and therefore are not available for inspection. The letter reaffirmed the squad's 501(c)(3) status. This form will also be made available to the public upon request. In addition, the form 990 is available on the internet at www.guidestar.com.

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 1, Part I, Line 6

The squad is operated solely by volunteers. There are approximately 50 volunteers in the squad. They provide volunteer emergency medical technician services and respond to calls for aid at home, motor vehicle crashes, people who need emergency aid while in pleasure or commercial boats off the coast and are brought into the coast guard station in manasquan, and to the many visitors who come to the beaches and the point pleasant boardwalk who are ill or injured during their travels to and through the area. The squad also provides standby ems for special events which occur throughout the year at the jersey shore. In addition, the squad includes a search and rescue dive team who service the waterways and beaches.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 3, Part X

As required by the accounting standards codification, the squad adopted the recognition requirements for uncertain income tax positions as required by accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america, with no cumulative effect adjustment required. Income tax benefits are recognized for income tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return, only when it is determined that the income tax position will more- likely-than-not be sustained upon examination by taxing authorities. The squad has analyzed tax positions taken for filing with the internal revenue service. The squad believes that income tax filing positions will be sustained upon examination and does not anticipate any adjustments that would result in a material adverse affect on the squad's financial condition, results of operations or cash flows. The squad has not recorded any reserves, or related accruals for interest and penalties for uncertain income tax positions at december 31, 2014. The squad believes it is no longer subject to income tax examination for years prior to 2011.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0AS REQUIRED BY THE ACCOUNTING STANDARDS CODIFICATION, THE SQUAD ADOPTED THE RECOGNITION REQUIREMENTS FOR UNCERTAIN INCOME TAX POSITIONS AS REQUIRED BY ACCOUNTING PRINCIPLES GENERALLY ACCEPTED IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WITH NO CUMULATIVE EFFECT ADJUSTMENT REQUIRED.
