Mission
The Appropedia Foundation unites a diverse group of people around a powerful calling: enabling a sustainable and accessible process of knowledge creation and dissemination for everyone. We share knowledge, technologies and skills with the potential to produce effects in terms of health, climate change, and international development, among others. Through combined abilities and interests, we join efforts to solve global issues. Since 2005 Appropedia Foundation has developed Appropedia, one of the broadest assets for sustainability knowledge on the planet. Communities from nonprofits, academia, and committed individuals have relied on Appropedia to generate technological capacities related to appropriate tecnology: low cost and viable solutions that anybody can reproduce and use according to their needs. The Appropedia Foundation is a nonprofit organization that enables open source access to knowledge on international development and sustainability. We do this by maintaining Appropedia, the wiki for sustainability. Appropedia is one of the most extensive resources of its kind and unique in its approach to documenting various resources that include appropriate technologies and environmental know-how. Our main goal is to support organizations in the creation and hosting of documentation and knowledge products that are accessible, editable, and reproducible, such as learning manuals, technical briefs, and skill training materials created by impact-focused organizations that are solving global issues.
