Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 1

Our program specifically addresses gender inequities in sports, which have persisted for decades. According to the Women's Sports Foundation, girls have 1.13 million fewer opportunities to play sports than boys, with 40% of teen girls not actively participating in any type of sports. Despite recent advancements in increasing access to sports for girls and women, a notable gender gap still persists, with Texas ranking 42nd in female athletic equality according to a 2015 analysis by the National Women's Law Center. Alarmingly, 44% of high schools in Texas exhibit large gender equity gaps in sports participation, highlighting the need for targeted interventions to promote inclusivity and equal opportunities for girls and women in athletics. Rae's Hope was founded in 2007 by Angela Rae Fields, a former Dallas ISD teacher of 32 years. Our programs have evolved out of years of observation and experience regarding what makes a difference in the lives of girls and the life of a thriving community. We apply a multi-faceted approach that combines team sports with a rich curriculum of life skills, healthy living, social skills, education, financial literacy, technology and community service. Our objective is to promote long-term participation in physical activities, thereby mitigating risks associated with violence, substance abuse, unplanned pregnancy, and school dropout rates which is prevalent in the communities we serve. The ultimate goal of these programs is to provide girls with a better vision of the future and help them achieve their dreams. What sets our program apart is our commitment to fostering positive mentorship and leadership within the North Texas community. Our team of volunteer mentors includes individuals from diverse backgrounds who serve as positive adult role models for our participants. They play a crucial role in monitoring the girls' progress and well-being, ensuring that each individual is treated with fairness and respect. Utilizing structured activities, we instill essential life skills such as effective communication, conflict resolution, teamwork, leadership, and interpersonal relationship-building. Donations to Rae's Hope will allow us to continue providing free access to our programs, covering equipment, attire, and transportation costs. Recognizing that many of our participants' parents cannot take time off from work to transport their daughters to and from practice, our transportation services alleviate this logistical challenge, ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to benefit from our programs regardless of her family's circumstances. Serving over 200 girls annually, the positive impact that Rae's Hope is making in our community is both tangible and intangible. Along with the better health gained from participation in sports, girls in our programs have a 100% high school graduation rate as compared to the Dallas ISD average of 81% (2021-2022 school year data). Pre- and post-test assessments help determine our participants gain in foundational knowledge and interest in topics and activities. These assessments are also used to measure their development in the areas of leadership, self-esteem, and emotional wellness.

IRS990/Desc0Main program- Rae's Hope's program includes a multi-faceted approach that combines team sports with a rich cirricula of life skills, healthy living, social skills, technology, financial literacy and community service. Our work is to engage young girls in the development of life-skills outside of school, with hopes of preventing them from disruptive behaviors by focusing on activities that lead to positive outcomes. Through our main program, the girls learn the sport of volleyball, while at the same time, practicing life-skills, improving themselves and building constructive relationships. Since our inception, 90% of the girls who participated in programming for more than two years have graduated from high school.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0Our program specifically addresses gender inequities in sports, which have persisted for decades.
