“The organizations primary exempt purpose:the nomad foundations primary purpose is to work for preservation of cultural and artistic traditions in africa with special focus on niger. Nomad foundation raises contributions to provide food, water, health care, education and work for the people of niger to help them survive and support themselves using their traditional artisitic expertise. Exempt purpose achievementsthe mission of the nomad foundation is to bring essential services, health care and education to nomadic populations in niger, balancing cultural tradition with economic opportunities. Working in the remote northern desert, the nomad foundation seeks to help nomads surmount growing challenges posed by desertification, uranium mining, political unrest, and the incursion of terrorism. To fulfill this misssion, in 2009 we constructed the tamesna center for nomadic life. In our fiscal year 2016-2017 we continued expansion of operations introducing a new medical director who oversaw the training and reinforcement training of 12 traditional birth attendants, 10 of whom have been working since 2012. Their work has dramatically reduced the maternal and infant mortality rate we continued operation of a permanently staffed medical clinic constructed to serve nomads on their migration route. This clinic has served over 1500 patients per year since 2009. This year we purchased a motorcycle ambulance to serve to evacuate emergency patients to the nearest hospital. The boarding school at tamesna graduated its first class of 9 nomadic condidates who were all accepted to junior high school. The lower grades continue to be served and a new set of two classrooms is under construction. We continue a micro loan program which has benefited 91 candidates to date. This program addressed to help at risk nomadic youth has contributed to the fact that niger remains the most stable country in the region.”
