Mission

CECLC scholarship program began in 1991 and awards educational scholarships for Latino students each year.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Scholarship Awards: 22 students were awarded $1000 scholarships. Students were selected through a competitive scholarship process, with criteria including: Academic Achievement, Community Service, and Letters of Recommendation. At least one student from each participating region received a scholarship. The awards are paid directly to the educational institution the student is attending (college or university). Students are required to provide proof of enrollment and a copy of their class schedule. A Scholarship Night Awards Presentation was hosted by Chemeketa Community College for students and families on May 7, 2015.$22,000-
Workshop: 36 distinct workshops took place during the conference. Presenters were volunteers, representing community-based organizations, businesses, and institutions of higher education. Student/Staff evaluations were positive regarding both workshop topics and delivery. Each student attended two workshops and the College Career Fair. CECLC held an Administrators Session for school principals, teachers, staff, sponsors, and community leaders to learn about CECLC and positive impacts the conference is making. The session included a presentation by 2015 Keynote Speaker Curtis Acosta, Ph.D., Educator, and Consultant.$16,600-
Planning Retreat: The annual planning retreat, after the 2015 conference, was held April 3, 2015. The outcomes included: 2016 Conference date, debriefed past conference, developed long-term strategic plan, and generated theme and workshop topics. Discussions regarding strengthening the partnership with Western Oregon University also took place.$2,279-
Student Contest: The conference included a successful Art, Video, and Poetry competition. NWRESD coordinated the selection process. First, Second, Third, and Honorable Mention were chosen for each category. An Outstanding Student Leader Award competition was also held. Each service area coordinated their own nomination and selection process. One student leader from each area was chosen and the leaders took part in planning the conference. CECLC continued their partnership with Portland Timbers and 4 students were selected to participate in the Bilingue Reportero Program.$1,550-
Board: Monthly Board meetings were held throughout the planning year (September-May). Representatives from participating school districts helped develop 2015 Conference schedule, workshops, and format. Their input determined how the budget would be spent. Their active participation insured that their schools and students were prepared for the conference.$300-
Conference: The annual conference was held Friday, March 6, 2015 at Western Oregon University. Conference attendees were from 10 service areas, including 75 different high schools. Over 1700 students and staff registered for the conference.--
Exhibit area: 27 exhibitors participated in the 2015 conference. They included representatives from the Armed Forces, Colleges and Universities, and Community-based organizations. The Conference Exhibit Area is one of the assigned workshops for all conference attendees.--
