HBI-DCs mission is to mobilize communities to prevent liver diseases caused by viral hepatitis among Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, African immigrants, and other high-risk groups. Through collaborative partnerships, our organization provides culturally and linguistically appropriate viral hepatitis outreach, education, screening, Hep B vaccination, linkage to care, and patient navigation services for impacted communities. We also provide preventative health education for those who may be HIV co-infected and refer them to partnering organizations for additional screening, counseling, and care services.

We are still HBI and have expanded to solidify our unwavering commitment to enhance overall health. We now offer outreach and education that allows us to serve more people with health access disparities this includes: Beyond education, we offer free testing for glucose, cholesterol, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, TB, and syphilis. HBI also provides case management and patient navigation services, ensuring a seamless linkage to care for comprehensive health management. We are a diverse team serving diverse communities with a new revitalized brand. Look for the soft launch that starts with our new website. Translations of our educational materials will start with Spanish and will follow to include Chinese, Mongolian, Vietnamese, and Amharic. Our commitment to better health and well-being includes simplifying access to free health resources. I am pleased to present our accomplishments and impactful stories from 2024 in this annual report. This past year, HBI continued its unwavering commitment to empowering individuals and communities towards optimal health, with a primary focus on liver diseases, infectious diseases, and chronic conditions. Through culturally sensitive education, robust support services, and collaborative partnerships, we have taken significant strides in eliminating health disparities, particularly among vulnerable populations. In 2024, HBI screened 12,940 individuals consisting of 4,250 in DC, 7,084 in Maryland and 1,606 in Virginia. 85% of those tested from the screening were linked to follow-up care and treatment. 65% of those requested support were provided resources. HBI conducted A1c tests for 2,409 individuals, 8,372 lipid panel tests for 8,372, HBV tests for 4,621, HCV tests for 10,959 and HIV tests for 8,263 individuals. HBI educated 21,250 individuals to make the aware benefits of healthy living and the dangers of ignoring it. |
