The Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (MYPO) provides high-quality music education instruction, experiences, and performances to the youth in Maui County. Our heart is to also reach the underserved youth as we believe every student should have the opportunity to play an orchestral instrument, regardless of their socio-economic background. We support and enrich the young musicians on Maui to reach their highest potential.

Mission

The Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (MYPO) provides high-quality music education instruction, experiences, and performances to the youth in Maui County. Our heart is to also reach the underserved youth as we believe every student should have the opportunity to play an orchestral instrument, regardless of their socio-economic background. We support and enrich the young musicians on Maui to reach their highest potential.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Since the string program is being offered to youth in a public & a private school, the interest to play a string instrument has greatly increased. MYPO strives to offer access to the string program for students of all ages.$0$13,220
MYPO has recently begun Strings in the Schools in order to reach students that may not have access or the opportunity learn a classical string instrument. MYPO has provided a Beginning Strings program for youth from 7-15 to learn to play a classical string instrument. The String Ensemble is a continued education for students that have played for at least a year or 2 through private lessons. Concert Strings is for students with 3+ years of education and playing to continue their orchestral journey. All of these groups have come together for a winter concert and a spring concert to showcase their musical talents and accomplishments. Since Covid the number of students has begun to increase and this year there were more than 35 participants.$0$0
