Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The CEO of the organization distributes a PDF copy of the 990 to all Board Members for review and comment prior to the return being filed.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

At each Board and Committee meeting, if there is a discussion of selecting or engaging a vendor or service provider, all in attendance are asked to recuse themselves from this discussion if there could be a perceived conflict. Annually, the organization reviews and discusses the conflict of interest policy and requests that each Board Member list and acknowledge any known conflicts.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The Board and Committee reviews the compensation for all officers and key employees by comparing their compensation to the compensation of individuals in like positions in comparable organizations using Form 990, compensation studies, and other available data. They approve any changes in compensation based on this information.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization will provide in a timely manner, copies of all governing documents including its conflict of interest policies and financial statements when requested in writing or in person.

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Section 28, Line 28

CONTINUED FROM PART IIIWIN Network Detroit partnered with Project S.N.A.P to create an inspiring community mosaic mural featuring individual artwork created by members of the community. The large mosaic image reflects the concepts of hope, courage, strength and wisdom, the three WIN Network Detroit neighborhoods of Osborn, Chadsey-Condon, and Brightmoor, and the unifying theme of ensuring that all babies reach their first birthday. The final 5 x 9 large-scale mosaic mural was unveiled and put on display in each of the three WIN Network, Detroit neighborhoods promoting community pride and collective ownership. Additionally, every participant received an 18x24 commemorative poster reproduction of the mosaic mural.Color for a Cure entered its sixth year expanding as a program offered to both the Chicago, Atlanta, and Detroit communities. Nearly 6,000 families and students from across the Detroit metropolitan area, Atlanta metropolitan area and Chicagoland area collaborated to create 3 different giant mosaic murals made out of their artworks. The final mosaic murals were unveiled at each citys gala and auctioned as a fundraiser for the local JDRF chapter. Operation Grateful Nation is a national program that was part of a partnership between Ford Motor Company Fund and Project S.N.A.P. designed to give participants the opportunity to thank members of the military for their service and commitment. This program culminated in the creation of a giant 4x8 mosaic mural currently on display at the Pentagon. The mosaic mural was created from nearly 5,000 artworks contributed by high school students, active duty military, military families and veterans. Participants created artworks and wrote artists statements reflecting on the importance of expressing gratitude for the service and sacrifice that members of the military and their families give for their country. A copy of each artwork created was also mailed to active duty military serving overseas as part of their holiday packages. Each participating city also received their own 6x4 edition of the mosaic mural. Project S.N.A.P. also partnered with libraries on The World is in our Hands. This smaller scale program was designed to provide libraries with the opportunity to engage community members in a participatory experience that would help them reflect on the importance of the library in the community and give patrons a meaningful community building experience.

Form 990, Part IX, Line 34

The organization hires several artists and subcontractors to assist with their programs.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0CONTINUED FROM PART IIIWIN Network Detroit partnered with Project S.N.A.P to create an inspiring community mosaic mural featuring individual artwork created by members of the community.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1The CEO of the organization distributes a PDF copy of the 990 to all Board Members for review and comment prior to the return being filed.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2At each Board and Committee meeting, if there is a discussion of selecting or engaging a vendor or service provider, all in attendance are asked to recuse themselves from this discussion if there could be a perceived conflict. Annually, the organization reviews and discusses the conflict of interest policy and requests that each Board Member list and acknowledge any known conflicts.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3The Board and Committee reviews the compensation for all officers and key employees by comparing their compensation to the compensation of individuals in like positions in comparable organizations using Form 990, compensation studies, and other available data. They approve any changes in compensation based on this information.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt4The organization will provide in a timely manner, copies of all governing documents including its conflict of interest policies and financial statements when requested in writing or in person.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt5The organization hires several artists and subcontractors to assist with their programs.
