Mission

Reduce the human and economic costs of chronic kidney disease (ckd).

Major Activities

Activity 2
Financial assistance program. In 2008, the trust completed the test phase and designed and launched the pilot phase of its financial assistance program for dialysis patients who are struggling financially while coping with their illness. A total of 682 grants valued at $1,150,800 were awarded in 2010 increasing the cumulative total number of grants awarded since inception to 1,129 with a value of $2,173,383.

BY THE END OF 2010, THE TRUST'S SCREENING TOTAL INCREASED TO NEARLY 15,000 PEOPLE ACROSS THE COUNTRY.CKD EDUCATION AND AWARENESS. THE TRUST FURTHERED CKD EDUCATION AND AWARENESS IN A NUMBER OF WAYS, INCLUDING DEVELOPING ITS WEBSITE AS AN EDUCATION TOOL, SUPPORTING EVENTS THAT BOTH RAISE CKD AWARENESS AND FUNDS FOR THE TRUST'S PROGRAMS, DISTRIBUTING A QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER, AND PROVIDING CKD EDUCATION DIRECTLY TO CONSUMERS AT HEALTHFAIRS AND OTHER EMPLOYER AND COMMUNITY EVENTS.

THE ORGANIZATION ADOPTED THE PROVISIONS OF FASB ACCOUNTING STANDARDS CODIFICATION (ASC) 740-10, INCOME TAXES, RELATING TO ACCOUNTING FOR UNCERTAIN TAX POSITIONS ON JANUARY 1, 2009, WHICH HAD NO FINANCIAL STATEMENT IMPACT TO THE ORGANIZATION. THE ORGANIZATION RECOGNIZES THE TAX BENEFIT FROM UNCERTAIN TAX POSITION ONLY IF IT IS MORE LIKELY THAN NOT THAT THE TAX POSITIONS WILL BE SUSTAINED ON EXAMINATION BY THE TAX AUTHORITIES, BASED ON THE TECHNICAL MERITS OF THE POSITION. THE TAX BENEFIT IS MEASURED BASED ON THE LARGEST BENEFIT THAT HAS A GREATER THAN 50% LIKELIHOOD OF BEING REALIZED UPON ULTIMATE SETTLEMENT.
