Mission and Program Overview
Mission
Digital Data Exchange, LLC (DDEX) is organized to explore, develop and maintain a robust framework of data exchange standards for the exchange of information relating to digital media content (which expressly does not include the development of standardized copy of content protection schemes, copyright protection schemes, codes or other supporting technology), with the initial focus being on music and music-related assets. Standards will be developed to improve the efficiency of information sharing and transaction processing (such as usage reporting and similar activities) between business entities operating in the digital media content supply chain. DDEX will promote, through the creating of publicity material, the holding of training seminars and the like, global awareness and compliant implementation of those standards. DDEX shall not as a consequence of these activities involve itself in the administration of the licensing of media content and rights.

| IRS990/Description | 0 | DDEX continued to develop standard XML message formats for the communication of information up and down the digital music supply chain, releasing updates of several of its standards. In addition DDEX published a new standard for the communication or information between music licensing companies. Lastly, DDEX continued to develop and publish "sub-set" standards called Business and Release Profiles which were specifically aimed at making implementation of the standards more straight forward. DDEX held three well attended Plenary Meetings during which work was carried out to progress the standards development and in-between through telephone and web conferences. DDEX also carried out a number of events to promote the adoption of its standards and encourage companies to become members and thus involved in future development of the standards. These took place at regular times throughout the year in cities in Europe and North America. All these activities have seen a continued growth in membership to about 70 individuals and organizations. DDEX continued to build relationships with other standards and trade organizations representing media types other than music, including audio-visual and text. Given the convergence of technology and the business models it supports the need for co-operation on these technical issues is vital. |
